Today the exclusive 1st trailer for the upcoming “Rise of the Guardians” animation film has been released! Rise of the Guardians, formerly titled The Guardians of Childhood, is an upcoming 3D computer-animated epic adventure film which will be based on William Joyce’s The Guardians of Childhood book series. It will be produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures, and is set for release on November 21, 2012. The film stars Chris Pine, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law and Dakota Goyo. It is being directed by Peter Ramsey and co-directed by Joyce, the creator of Rolie Polie Olie and Disney’s 2007 film Meet the Robinsons. The film is being described as “a contemporary fairytale based on existing fairytale characters”.

Here’s the plot of the film :

Plot : The film features a group of heroes from various childhood stories – Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and Jack Frost (Chris Pine) – who join in an adventure to stop Pitch the Nightmare King (Jude Law) from sending the world into “eternal darkness”.

DreamWorks Animation has debuted the first poster for Rise of the Guardians, an adaptation of the recently released books by William Joyce. The film will be directed by Peter Ramsey (Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space) and co-directed by Joyce and has already been set for a November 21, 2012 release with voices provided by Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law.

David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) penned the screenplay and I’m sure one of the film’s draws will be the fact Guillermo del Toro is serving as one of the executive producers. The story follows a group of heroes — Alec Baldwin as North (Santa Claus), Hugh Jackman as Bunnymund (Easter Bunny) and Isla Fisher as Tooth (Tooth Fairy) — each with extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch (Jude Law) lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world.

Considering the far off release date I’m not sure if we’ll see a trailer soon, but this poster would seem to suggest a little something more may be on the horizon. [Source]

Quite often when a major summer tentpole movie has a star that’s bring touted as “the next big thing,” they very rarely make the transition. Don’t believe me? What’s your favorite non-”Star Wars” film with Hayden Christensen, or the best non-”Superman” movie with Brandon Routh?

But something tells me that “Star Trek” star Chris Pine will not fall into the pit of despair both of those actors did. I believe he’ll seamlessly segue into the mainstream, taking a post “X-Men” page out of Hugh Jackman’s book.

Director Kevin Smith agrees, since he told MTV.com, “[Chris is] such a good actor. I’d watch that dude do anything … I’d watch that dude have sex with my wife at this point.”

You know, Kev, filming and distributing that encounter is potentially the only thing that would redeem you in my eyes after “Zach and Miri Make A Porno.” Just sayin.

J.J. Abrams’ franchise reboot boldly went where no Star Trek movie has gone before, grossing a stellar $72.5 mil from Friday through Sunday, according to early estimates by Hollywood.com Box Office.

That’s the second-best opening of 2009 (after X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s $85.1 mil last weekend), and it includes a whopping $8.2 mil earned in IMAX showings, a new one-weekend record for the large format (beating The Dark Knight’s $6.3 mil). What’s more, if you add in the $4 mil that the movie starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto earned in late-Thursday showings, Star Trek has banked an impressive $76.5 mil so far — well ahead of most expectations.

This result is highly logical. Considering all the hype and buzz and strong reviews that Star Trek has garnered, it’s no surprise that this film’s opening sum is by far the biggest of any Star Trek movie: Of the nine previous flicks in the franchise, 1996′s Star Trek: First Contact bowed best, with (only) $30.7 mil over three days. Moreover, a look at the movie’s CinemaScore report card reveals some potentially good news. While it drew an expected crowd mostly comprised of older males, Star Trek’s solid-A grade shows that word of mouth could be strong enough to bring in fans outside of the franchise’s usual demographic (i.e. people who weren’t alive in the 1980s…and women) as the weeks go on. Unless said folks are too distracted by Angels & Demons, Night at the Museum 2, and all the other big flicks on tap, of course.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (No. 2) was next with $27 mil on a 68 percent decline. Fanboy-driven films always fall hard, but this drop is particularly hefty. Nevertheless, Hugh Jackman’s franchise flick has already banked $129.6 mil in 10 days.

Fellow holdovers Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (No. 3 with $10.5 mil), Obsessed (No. 4 with $6.6 mil), and 17 Again (No. 5 with $4.4 mil) rounded out the top five. And the comedy Next Day Air failed to take off, grossing just $4 mil at No. 6.

And in limited release, neither Rudo y Cursi nor Little Ashes made much of a mark, as each averaged well under $7,000 per theater.

Overall, the box office was up nearly 22 percent from the same frame a year ago (when the infamous Speed Racer hit a bump in the road). And, really, what could be a better Mother’s Day gift than that? Love ya, Mom! Have a great day!
